CHAPTER 10: Training Management
To help you stand out in the fitness industry, we crafted our curriculum intending to elevate personal training standards. The field is indeed saturated with trainers, but the reality is that many need more comprehensive training and broad expertise. Furthermore, the exceptional ones who truly stand out possess a profound understanding of their craft that extends beyond the training session. As such, we dedicated nine comprehensive chapters to prepare you for Stage 4 of the PTBA PTSS. This stage is most visibly associated with personal training: the workout session.
Although personal training encompasses far more than simply the training sessions—requiring client consultations, assessments, and careful program design—these sessions are crucially important. They provide the context in which you can demonstrate your expertise, build rapport with your clients, and help your clients progress toward their fitness goals. Moreover, these sessions offer a unique opportunity for you to distinguish yourself as a professional. In the gym setting, your skills and expertise are on display. Other gym-goers will inevitably notice you and your services, or better to say, the level of service you’re providing to your clients. Imagine this situation as sitting outside a coffee shop on a prominent street. Many cars are slowly driving by, but you pay more attention only to those that you perceive as extraordinary. It has to be something that is really standing out amongst the rest of them, and it’s going to be the same with personal training.
Yet, it’s important to note that standing out can have two outcomes. On the one hand, you can stand out negatively: lacking professionalism, making inappropriate comments, or using poor technique. On the other hand, you can stand out positively: demonstrating your depth of knowledge, fostering a supportive environment, and demonstrating exceptional technique. So naturally, we aim for the latter.
This chapter will outline the key elements of successful training management. We’ll provide you with a set of guidelines to ensure that you always leave a positive impression, allowing you to position yourself as one of the best trainers in your environment. These guidelines are simple yet profound. They require you to embody professionalism, be consistent in your service delivery, and be passionate about what you do. As we move forward, you will discover that standing out in the fitness industry is easier than it seems. It merely requires commitment, knowledge, and genuine care for your clients. Welcome to the next stage of your journey as a personal trainer.
